A fruit heritage to be discovered

Interview with Muriel Hendricks from ProFrutteti

In the programme ‘RSI Food’ from 29.08.2024 on RSI, the commitment of Muriel Hendrichs, a long-time member of the Swiss Ethnobiology Network, and the organisation ProFrutteti to preserve old local fruit varieties, especially apples and pears, is presented. Hendrichs has identified over 250 varieties of fruit in Italian-speaking Switzerland and promotes their preservation by setting up fruit collections. In addition to research, ProFrutteti organises workshops to pass on knowledge about fruit tree care and the diversity of fruit. Young people are also involved, for example through the production of fruit juice from unused fruit. The aim is to preserve traditional knowledge and strengthen the connection to nature.
