One reason for the formation of the network are the rare possibilities for ethnobiology training in Switzerland. For several years, other countries offer successfully training and research courses at all academic levels, while in Switzerland no comparable offer exists. Ethnobiological studies have so far been embedded in neighbouring disciplines such as ethnology, anthropology, ecology, pharmacy, botany, etc.
